How to Calculate the Time Until School Starts
Every school starts at a different time, but most schools end their summer break and start in August or September. You can count down until school starts a few ways.
The easiest is to use a school start countdown calculator (see above) or our time duration calculator.
To calculate the days remaining until school starts manually, follow these steps:
If the first day of school is in the current month, then you can calculate the days remaining using subtraction. Subtract the current day from the first day of school.
days until school starts = first day of school – current day
If the first day of school isn’t in the current month, then you’ll need to add the days left in the current month to the days in each month until the date to the days in the month remaining until school begins.
days until school starts = days left in current month + total days in next month + … + days in the month before first day of school
This is the same process that you’d use to countdown to the end of school, Christmas, your birthday, or any other event.
For instance, if it’s currently July 27th and school starts on September 4th, then you can calculate the days until school starts like this:
days until school starts = 4 + 31 + 3
days until school starts = 38 days
In this example, there are 4 days remaining in the current month, plus 31 days in August, plus 3 days until September 4th. Thus, there are 38 days left until school starts.
