How to Figure Out the Time Until an Event
You can find out how much time there is until an event in a way ways. The easiest is to use a countdown timer, but you can also manually calculate the time until by following a few easy steps.
The first step is to find the current date and time using a calendar and clock.
Method One: Subtract the Current Date From the Target Date
If you’re trying to find the time until an event on a different day in the future, such as your birthday or wedding, you’ll need to subtract the current date from the target date to find the days between the two dates. If you’re trying to find the time until something later on the same day, you can use the method below.
If both dates are in the same month, then simply subtract the current date number from the end date number.
If the end date is in a different month, then you can count the days between the dates using a calendar or with our days until date calculator.
For example, let’s calculate the days until May 17th, assuming the current date is May 4th.
Subtract the current date from the end date:
17 – 4 = 13
So, if it is May 4th, the time until May 17th is 13 days.
Method Two: Subtract the Current Time From the Target Time
If you’re trying to find the time until something happens later today, such as the end of school, then you can subtract the current time from the end time. It will be easiest to first convert the times to 24-hour time (sometimes called military time).
Then, subtract the hours and minutes of the current time from the end time to find the hours and minutes remaining until your event.
For example, let’s calculate the time remaining until 4:00 PM, assuming the current time is 11:30 AM.
Start by converting 4:00 PM to 24-hour time. Since 4:00 PM is in the afternoon, add 12 to the hours.
4:00 + 12:00 = 16:00
Since the starting time of 11:30 is in the morning, it’s already in 24-hour time.
Now, subtract the times.
16:00 – 11:30 = 4:30
So, if it is 11:30 AM, the time until 4:00 PM is 4 hours and 30 minutes.
